Contemporary short stories and fiction represent a significant form of literary expression through which human experiences, social realities, and psychological conflicts are artistically conveyed. This article examines the structural elements of contemporary short stories, aiming to clarify how components such as plot, character, theme, setting, point of view, dialogue, style, and imagination contribute to the development and effectiveness of modern narratives. The study is conducted to address the need for a clearer understanding of how these elements function systematically in shaping meaningful and coherent literary works. Methodologically, the research employs a descriptive–analytical approach, drawing on both library-based sources and critical analysis of literary theories, including the perspectives of classical thinkers like Aristotle as well as contemporary scholars. The findings indicate that the success of a short story largely depends on the logical coherence, artistic balance, and purposeful integration of its structural elements. Furthermore, the study highlights that a well-constructed narrative not only reflects reality but also enhances the reader’s intellectual and emotional engagement. In conclusion, this research contributes to literary studies by providing a structured and analytical framework for understanding modern short fiction, offering both theoretical insight and practical value for writers and scholars.
